Ms. Joy Kennedy, Ph.D.

Joy L. Kennedy is the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Royal (Jean) Kennedy of Salisbury, NC. She is an active member of Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church in Kannapolis, NC. At Bethel, Joy is a member of the Trustee Board, Lay Council, Senior Usher Board, Active member of the Young Adult Missionary Society (Y.A.M.S.), and Vice-President of the Young Adult in Christian Ministries (YACM). She is the Concord District Coordinator of the Y.A.M.S., Concord District Co-President of the YACM Steering Committee and the Young Adult Lay Representative for the Piedmont Episcopal District Lay Council.
Joy also maintains ecumenical memberships with the National Council of Negro Women, Church Women United, and World Federation Methodist and Uniting Church Women. Moreover, on July 30, 2015, Joy was elected as the Fifth General Coordinator of the Young Adult Missionary Society at the 28th Quadrennial Convention of the Women’s Home and Overseas Missionary Society in the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church.
Joy’s educational experiences include receiving a B.A. in Elementary Education and M.Ed. in Communication Disorders from North Carolina Central University and Ph. D. in Educational Studies with a concentration in Cultural Studies at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Currently, Joy is employed as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Communication Sciences and Disorders Department at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina.
One of Joy’s favorite scriptures is Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; And lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him; and he shall direct thy paths.”
