In John 14:12, Christ declared "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the work that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do because I go to my Father." The Women’s Home and Overseas Missionary Society of The African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church believe that there is a greater work for us to do.

Some might suggest that what we have already done or that the things that we are doing right now are sufficient. As long as the world, our nation and our local communities are in the condition that they are in, we must do more. As long as families are in crisis, people do not have enough food to eat or sleep in cars, we must do more. As long as children cannot go to school, because they do not have the right clothes or access to affordable health care, we must do more. As long as black men and black women are dying from AIDS, cancer, diabetes, heart disease and other preventable diseases, we must do more!

Our quadrennial theme “The Great Commission – A Global Outreach:  Personal Calling, Personal Transformation, Personal Instruction and Personal Commitment” challenges us as missionaries to make it personal as we do more.  It blends our desire for a deeper spiritual walk with Christ and our unwavering commitment to practical, community and church based ministry that will make a real difference!

Continue to use the Mission Imperatives in the spirit of shared purpose and collective action. I believe these imperatives will help us to fulfill our mission. In essence, it outlines the “what” with respect to our work. Your job is to determine the best approach or the “how” for bringing these efforts to full fruition in your society.

I pray that the Holy Ghost will confirm this vision in your hearts and minds then give you the resources and strength to act. I anticipate a powerful movement in our society—one that will lead the W.H.O.M.S. to even greater victory—securing one of the most precious promises given to you by Christ himself—a greater work!

Beloved, let us continue to be about our Father’s business by making a personal difference in the lives of others, our churches, and our communities and yes, even the world!
